Callus on feet
A callus (Tyloma) is a roughened area of skin that forms on weight-bearing parts of the foot due to continuous pressure. Anyone can develop a callus on their feet, though those who engage in frequent running or other sports are more likely to experience this. Most people have some callused areas on their feet, but those with more prominent or bony feet are particularly prone to developing high-pressure areas, leading to increased callus formation. Additionally, dry skin (Anhidrosis) can contribute to the buildup of calluses.
If calluses start to build up, they can cause the underlying skin to become sore and even bleed, and corns may develop within the callused areas. Fortunately, calluses can be safely and professionally debrided (shaved) with a scalpel. With regular maintenance using tailored treatments and products, your feet can stay smooth and pain-free.
How to treat callus on feet
For clients with dry skin, we recommend filing the feet once a week using the Professional Foot File, and moisturising daily with the Intensive Hydrating Foot Lotion. For very dry feet, we suggest pairing the lotion with the Intensive Hydrating Foot Oil. The best approach is prevention, which can be supported by the use of orthotics.
