1 review for Intensive Hydrating Hand Lotion, 200ml

  1. testing Treat your Feet right this Winter

Dodge those dreary, weary Winter feet!

    1. If you have seriously discoloured or broken crumbly nails and have been too scared to find out the worst, then now is probably the time to face your demons! If you do have a fungal nail condition you have the next 7 or 8 months to get it sorted if you act now.

    2. If you are prone to a flare up of Athletes Foot in the winter try to use a hair dryer on the feet after you get out of the bath or shower – it makes a huge difference as it helps to dry the moisture and keep bacterial and fungal infections to a minimum.

    3. Avoid long-term staining of the nails by removing all the old nail polish completely and don’t just leave it to grow out!

    4. If you wear boots in the winter try and make sure that your socks or tights are not pulled too tightly over the toes as this can cause ingrown toe nails – simply pull the fabric away from your toes before you put your boots or closed shoes on and it will release the pressure from the toe nails.

    5. If you are prone to finding ridges over the big toe nails once you take off your winter shoes and boots then it is probably because your socks or tights are too thick inside your footwear and the footwear is constricting the nail causing nail bed damage which can give you a ridge across the nail at the point where it is pressing.

    6. Make sure that your foot products do not disappear from beside your bed – one thing for sure is that if you don’t use it, it won’t work! Whether it’s the Foot Lotion or the Foot Hygiene Cream that is your foot saviour make sure before bed you pop it onto your feet.

All the effort will be worthwhile early next year as you Spring into 2018, with one less thing to worry about when getting ready to bare your legs for the Summer!

  3. testing A Brides Guide to Perfect Feet[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

A Brides Guide to Perfect Feet

Margaret, better known as the ‘Queen of Feet’, shares her top tips on how to get your feet wedding ready. For ladies the day often involves high heels and/or, strappy sandals, so it is imperative the feet look good enough to show off, as well as being comfortable enough to relax and enjoy the big day.

Get regular pedicure appointments booked well in advance of the big day. You should really be looking at a 12 week schedule to get feet in tip top condition. Start with a Margaret Dabbs London signature Medical Pedicure, a thorough overhaul of the feet, performed by a qualified Podiatrist which will leave you feeling like you are walking on air, with feet which look and feel brand new. Here at Margaret Dabbs London we offer special bridal packages, guaranteed to care and beautify the feet, to get you through your wedding and honeymoon with feet to be proud of.

2 Daily use of the Margaret Dabbs London Intensive Hydrating Foot Lotion will leave your feet feeling light and silky and looking beautifully healthy.

3 Soak feet regularly – this is a super way to relax mind, body and sole – and can be easily done at home at the end of the day. Our wonderful lemon scented Hydrating Foot Soak is perfect to keep feet fresh and supple.

4 Try to give the toe nails a break from polish for a couple of weeks. This allows them time to rehydrate. Dehydrated nails are often brittle and prone to breaking and splitting. It will also give time to rid them of any polish discolouration. Daunting as this may seem, nails can look just as lovely if they are buffed properly giving them a natural groomed look. Our Super Shiner Buffer is perfect for this.

5 Invest in our fabulous Nourishing Nail and Cuticle Serum. This little wonder product, really does work and will improve the nail and cuticle areas beyond recognition, getting rid of dry, cracked/split nails and cuticles as well as smoothing away any ridges. It can be used on the fingers with equally good results and the 15ml size means that it can be carried easily in a handbag! The pump applicator makes it really easy to use.

Break in your wedding shoes – a good idea is to go half a size bigger than your normal shoe size, as your feet will swell and there is nothing worse than standing in over-tight new shoes all day long. If you’re worried, keep Compeed handy for emergencies.

7 If you are opting to go for a nail polish on your hands and feet, go for natural tones. These always work very well on different skin types and are subtle enough on the big day. Popular Margaret Dabbs London colours that we use for brides to be are Sweet Pea (nude), Pink Blossom (sheer pink), Cornflower (pastel blue) and Crocus (Grey/lilac).

Congratulations to all of you who are planning to or have got married recently!

  4. testing How to Prep your Feet for the Summer by Margaret DabbsWith June just a few days away, and the summer holidays creeping up on us, it’s time to get our feet summer ready, but are your feet ready for the big reveal?

We’ve all experienced that last minute rush for a pedicure before a summer holiday. From built up callus to full blown fungal infections, it often takes the prospect of having to bare feet in the warmer weather for us to see the full extent of how bad they really are, after being imprisoned in warm socks and shoes all winter.

Imagine being able to slip on those flip flops or strappy heels without the worry of nail infections, blisters or unsightly cracked and hardened skin all year round. There are simple at home steps and treatments you can take to get healthy, gorgeous feet, so you can eliminate that dreaded rush to the clinic.

Here is some advice on how to get your feet looking pretty for the summer by our Founder and CEO Margaret Dabbs:

How can we get feet back in tiptop condition for the summer season, so they are again healthy and look beautiful?

What people often don’t understand is that the correct products used in the right way can really make a difference in transforming the feet.

For example, it is important that feet are always filed when the skin is dry – that is before you have showered. The reasons for this are quite simple: firstly, a foot that has been bathed masks the areas that need to be treated - you simply cannot see the dry skin or callus in the same way. If a foot is prone to cracks in the skin, bathing will weaken the tissues, making the crack more likely to open up. Finally, skin does not adhere as well to wet skin and so will not be as effective.

Similarly, intensive moisturisation is essential to a superior pedicure, as feet go through the ageing process in exactly the same way as the face. The skin thins, the sub cutaneous fat is lost and sweat glands reduce in effectiveness. So it is important to re-introduce moisture into the skin of the feet.  You would not consider exfoliating the face without following it with a foot moisturiser, the same applies to the feet. Do bear in mind that the skin of the feet is 12 times thicker than that of the rest of the body, which is why a body lotion just will not work.

It is for these reasons I formulated the Margaret Dabbs London Fabulous Feet collection – products that are luxurious yet effective and will give you visible and long lasting results.

Four steps to get your feet summer ready:

Step 1 - Treat yourself to a salon pedicure. I would recommend our signature Medical Pedicure treatment in one of our clinics across the country

Step 2 - Follow this up with a dedicated routine of home treatments to prolong the incredible results. I would suggest using the Margaret Dabbs London’s Professional Foot File and the award winning Margaret Dabbs London Foot Hygiene Cream, designed to be anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and deeply moisturising.

Step 3 - Use the foot file twice a week on dry skin, remember to be careful not to over-file, and always follow on by applying a moisturiser for the best possible results.

Step 4 - This, as well as daily moisturising with our Intensive Hydrating Foot Lotion, will help to improve the condition of the skin, including cracks, callus, blisters and broken skin and discoloured, damaged nails.

After all, if you look after your feet, your feet will look after you.

    Margaret

  6. testing Top tips for Skiers

Top tips for Skiers from Margaret Dabbs

Ski season is upon us and many of us will be planning to take a ski trip in the next coming months. There’s nothing quite like the mix of the adrenaline of the slopes, those spectacular views and clear mountain air, plus the fun of apres-ski of course! Margaret loves skiing and is looking forward to heading to Austria this season, but she is of course aware of the problems that skiing can pose to the feet, and wanted to share some important tips with you before you head off…

When skiing, your feet are the most important parts of the body as they act as shock absorbers as well as helping you to steer and go faster when whizzing down the slopes. So it’s best of course that your feet are in tip top condition from the outset - any injuries, problems or foot conditions could not only compromise your performance but also leave the feet open to further and potentially serious damage. If possible, before you go, book an appointment with one of our podiatrists for a Medical Pedicure and get the feet properly overhauled and protected, but if you are unable to get to see us beforehand, we’ve compiled a few top tips for skiers to help you and your feet get the best out of your ski vacation as you tackle those slopes with style.

First of all, it sounds very basic but it’s vital to make sure that everything fits properly! Don’t wear socks that are too tight, and keep to natural fibres as these will allow your skin to breath and are kinder on your feet. Good socks will not only keep your feet dry, but will also keep them warm and comfortable. There is nothing worse than having soggy socks in ski boots! If you do happen to run up against this problem, our Foot Hygiene Cream is a must when skiing. Also, make sure you wear properly fitted boots and they are not too tight, as this can cause a lot of pain on feet. The boots must be good enough to keep your feet and ankles in place, but should allow your ankle to flex. Choose boots carefully as you will most likely be wearing them for a number of hours and try a variety of different styles, wearing them in a bit before going out on the slopes.

Blisters can be a real misery when skiing and this is the most common problem that skiers face, so as well as making sure your boots are fitted properly, protect areas of rubbing or sweaty skin with Surgical Spirit or lemon juice. If you do get a blister, protect the area with ‘Compeed’, available from all good chemists. Also remember to keep toe nails trimmed, straight and short to avoid bruising, blackening and pain.

After all that hard work on the mountains, give your feet some apres-ski TLC! Use our fabulous Hydrating Foot Soak after a hard day’s skiing to relax and refresh tired and boot battered feet – and why not finish with a foot massage using the Intensive Hydrating Foot Lotion keeping feet hydrated and fresh. Take our fabulous Feet Discovery Kit with you, it contains our four key products and comes in handy travel sizes that are easy to pack and the perfect travel companion for your feet. And always bring a bottle of SPF30 sun protection - one application will last all day and it’s a non greasy easy to apply formula.

If skiing is not for you and you find yourself being whisked off in search of some lovely winter sunshine, book yourself in for one of our renowned Margaret Dabbs Medical Pedicure, guaranteed to get your feet in tip top condition ready for sun and beach exposure after a winter in boots. Our medical pedicures are available at all of our Spa’s and Clinics – our receptionists will be happy to advise you on availability of appointment times. All our treatment rooms allow you to enjoy a manicure at the same time as a your medical pedicure - the perfect solution if you’re short on time.

  9. testing Get Party Ready Feet with Margaret Dabbs London

Read Margarets tips on how to get party ready feet ahead of the festive season!

I always tell my clients to prepare your feet for special occasions by looking after them whenever you can. And try not to make them work too hard during the run up to the party season! If you lavish a little extra TLC on them whenever you can, you’ll be ready to step out in style and dance the night away!

Try to ensure your shoes are as comfortable as is possible – if you can, change them often during the day and wear flats while you are travelling to work. Drink plenty of water and keep hydrated.

If you can’t fit a professional foot treatment into your busy schedule then put just a little time aside to do a home treatment – you will be surprised at the long lasting results.

With the correct products you can achieve remarkable results. Remember to foot file first – on dry skin before you bathe – make sure it's a quality one, though, to remove the skin evenly, finely, safely and quickly.

Bathe the feet when they are tired and, of course, I would recommend our Intensive Hydrating foot lotion daily – this contains emu oil which will act to reduce inflammation and throbbing and keep the feet supple and moisturised. This would be my number one product for looking after your feet this season – after a night out, use this, along with the Intensive Treatment Foot Oil, before bed and you’ll wake up with refreshed, hydrated feet.

All our products have been created by myself and are formulated to treat the feet – they all contain emu oil to help relieve pain, aching, swelling and throbbing and lemon myrtle to soothe and refresh – these factors give instant and long lasting results , transforming the way the feet look while reducing inflammation and hydrating the skin. The products are transdermal and non greasy and give amazing long-term results.

Put your high-heeled party shoes on at the very last minute and, if possible, don’t wear them for long periods of time. Ensure there is a padded sole for comfort as this makes an enormous difference and you don’t have to keep adjusting the position of the insole; it acts as a shock absorber, protecting the ball of the foot.

Remember, if your feet are very sensitive – you will find that this is especially so in fair hair and fine-skinned individuals – don’t be tempted to wear patent or hard leather shoes or boots: keep the leather light and soft as they will be much easier on the feet.

A chunkier heel will distribute the body weight better and will be more comfortable as it assists with balance when walking, and offers good support to the soft tissues and arches of the foot.

  10. testing Protect your hands and nails this Winter

Read Margarets tips on protecting your hands and nails this winter season!

Dehydration of the hands and nails are a most common cause that all of us face in our day to day life especially in the winter months. Exfoliating, moisturising and using a good SPF sunscreen on your hands can all combat this issue and leave your hands looking illuminated and bright.

    • Exfoliate your hands  Exfoliating your skin will remove any dead skin cells leaving them hydrated and smooth. Use our Exfoliating Hand Scrub with orange peel and jojoba to remove the dead dry grey scaly skin and infuse with vitamin C.
    • Use a good hand moisturiser It’s very easy for your hands and nails to dry out during winter so it’s important to keep them hydrated and moisturised. The Margaret Dabbs London Intensive Hydrating Hand Lotion helps protect skin firmness and elasticity. Containing white water lily and wild rose plant extracts, these help maintain the moisture levels of the skin. Use our travel sized mini hand lotion to keep in your bag when on the go during the cold months.
    • Look after your nails It’s important that your nail bed and cuticles stay hydrated in the winter months as this will keep them looking healthy and will in turn promote strong nails and will reduce ridging, dehydration and tatty cuticles. Use the Margaret Dabbs London Nourishing Nail & Cuticle Serum, perfect for hydrating nails, helping to prevent nail infections and restore the nails and cuticles to full health.
    • Wear gloves when outside This will protect your hands and nails and prevent them from the effects of harsh weather conditions.
    • Use  sunscreen It is easy to forget to apply sunscreen in the winter months, but don’t forget that whilst your skin is fully clothed and your moisturiser and make-up is usually formulated to contact SPF, the hands are the only part of the body that are almost always bare and exposed and open to the elements which bring on premature ageing. Using  the Margaret Dabbs London SPF 30 Sun Defence for Hands will keep your hands protected from the sun and from drying.  It is simple to apply as you just spray it without rubbing it in, and it also helps to seal the moisture from your hand lotion.

  11. testing Get your Feet Marathon ReadyGet Feet Ready, Pre & Post Marathon with Margaret Dabbs

In the run up to the London Marathon and the charity race season, our founder Margaret shares some advice on how to avoid damage, managing foot health and rectifying problems caused by a vigorous training regime.

    • Footwear is very important when training for a long-distance race, and need to be correct for your running style. Most decent running stores will be experienced and be able to advise you. Once you find the right pair of trainers that are comfortable and suited to your running style, it is advisable to purchase 2 pairs of these so that you can alternate these and still have them for the race. The mileage undertaken in preparation is immense if you are focusing properly; building up to around 45 miles a week in the 6 weeks’ pre-race date, and with all the training, footwear wears out quickly. There is nothing worse than finding out three weeks before the race (when you are reducing down your mileage), that you need another pair of trainers and have to break them in. Before you start your training you should see a Podiatrist to ensure any issues are detected early and treated so that later problems are avoided.

    • Make sure your nails are not too long as the pounding on the streets will cause them to press on footwear and socks. This can cause trauma and inflammation to your nails.

    • Socks need to fit properly, so not too tight as this can lead to ingrown toenails. Good quality socks help to hold the foot in position and also keep the feet dry. Good quality socks are also key to avoiding blisters.

    • People need to think about their feet and address concerns in the way they would with the rest of the body. A good foot moisturiser should be used daily and regular visits for a medical pedicure is key to ensure long-term healthy feet pre-and post-training. Wrap your feet in our luxuriously rich and creamy Margaret Dabbs London Intensive Hydrating Foot Lotion. This award winning lotion, enriched with Emu Oil and scented with Lemon Myrtle, will immediately transform and nourish the skin of the feet, whilst softening callus and slowing future callus build up.

    • Post-training Allow feet to soak in the Margaret Dabbs London Hydrating Foot Soak to instantly relieve puffy, tired, and aching feet. Our signature ingredient, Emu Oil, helps to reduce any swelling of the feet and lower legs, whilst protecting dehydrated skin and nails. This multi-tasking product is also great for relieving inflammation of the bones and joints by being massaged into feet.

    • The Margaret Dabbs London Foot Hygiene Cream is the ultimate, must-have product for any runner as it helps to relieve symptoms of sore, dry, blistered skin and is the perfect hygiene measure for sports and sweat prone feet. Rich in Emu Oil to promote skin renewal and pure Tea Tree Oil, for it’s natural anti fungal and anti-bacterial qualities, it is perfect for daily use to keep feet looking fit, protected and healthy.

  14. testing Summer Ready Feet, All Year Round

We’ve all experienced that last minute rush for a pedicure before a summer holiday. As a foot specialist, I see it in my clinics all the time – from built up callus to full blown fungal infections, it often takes the prospect of having to bare feet in the warmer weather for us to see the full extent of how bad they really are, after being imprisoned in warm socks and shoes all winter.

Firstly, intensive moisturising is essential to transforming feet from dull to fabulous, as they go through the ageing process in exactly the same way as the face. The skin thins, the sub cutaneous fat is lost and sweat glands reduce in effectiveness, so it is important to re-introduce moisture into the skin of the feet – however as the skin of the feet is 12 times thicker than the rest of the body, a regular lotion will not work.

If you’re looking for a “miracle in a pot” as one customer called it, the Margaret Dabbs London Foot Hygiene Cream is the perfect measure for providing intensive hydration for the entirety of the foot, while helping to protect from infections, irritation and inflammation. Formulated with Australian Emu Oil for its anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties, this wonder product also carefully blends Tea Tree leaf, Benzoic and Salycilic Acid to help tackle that recurring hard skin, whilst deeply moisturising and helping regenerate dry and discoloured nails.

For even more effective care, couple this with our Professional Foot File and an effective exfoliator to prevent hard skin building up and to keep feet feeling soft.

When using the Professional Foot File, it is important to do this on dry skin. This is because a foot that has been bathed masks the areas that need to be treated. Similarly, if a foot is prone to cracks in the skin then bathing will weaken the tissues, making the crack and more likely to open up when you file. Just as you would never consider exfoliating the face without following with a moisturiser, the same applies with the feet – so make sure to follow with your Foot Hygiene Cream to reintroduce moisture into the skin.

Creating a dedicated routine with your feet is the best way to give you foot freedom all year round. These fabulous products are safe, effective and a joy to use and will liberate your feet, whatever the weather.

  19. testing Fabulous Hands For SummerWith the Summer sun, it’s time to ensure your hands stay fabulous all summer long whether you’re working in the office, relaxing on the beach or enjoying a weekend BBQ we can assure you that you’ll want hands and nails you can show off.

Our Fabulous Hands Collection is just what you need to care for your hands and nails, with each one offering treatment remedies with anti-ageing, healing and beautifying properties.

This collection includes the finest ingredients and botanical extracts including White Water Lily to stimulate the microcirculation, Vitamin E as a major antioxidant and healing agent, Wild Rose to nourish and revitalise the skin, Comfrey to reduce inflammation and encourage skin cell turnover and Sunflower Shoot Extract to preserve the skin’s structure and quality, creating results driven formulations that are a pleasure to use.

Our hand care regime will help you to transform your hands and nails with the botanical extracts together with the Australian Emu oil which has anti-ageing, healing and moisturising properties, while maintaining your manicure at the same time:

First, use our antibacterial Nourishing Hand Wash to cleanse, rehydrate and refresh your hands. For a more relaxed approach add the Hand Wash to a small bowl of warm water and soak your hands for a couple of minutes and let the Emu Oil repair and hydrate the skin while the plant extracts of White Water Lily, Comfrey and Wild Rose encourage cell renewal whilst soothing and revitalising the skin.

The next step is to gently remove any dry or dead skin using our Exfoliating Hand Scrub applied to wet hands. Our Hand Scrub combines the buffing effect of orange peel with vitamin C to protect against free radicals and jojoba beads to cleanse the hands of dead skin cells and brighten them. Hemp Seed provides omega 3 and 6 with linoleic acid and Emu Oil hydrates and tones. Your hands will be left feeling replenished and super silky to the touch!

After rinsing your hands with warm water apply our Intensive Anti-ageing Hand Serum formulated with anti oxidants, Vitamin E and Isoflavones to help reduce the appearance of age spots and improve the appearance and quality of the skin. The serum also contains Sunflower Shoot and Lupinus Albus Seed Extracts to improve skin elasticity and firmness as well as to encourage collagen production.
This is an important step to take if you are looking to reduce any age spots and want to improve the appearance, firmness and elasticity of your skin whilst nourishing and soothing the hands and leaving them visible silky.

To give extra suppleness to your hands apply our Intensive Hydrating Hand Lotion with intensive moisturising properties. The White Water Lily, Comfrey, Hemp Seed and Wild Rose plant extracts will help to maintain the moisture levels and immediately transform, illuminate, nourish and soften your skin.

Finally paint your nails with an on trend colour for summer such as a vibrant hot pink or a sunny orange. Or if you’re feeling less adventurous opt for a softer shade like pale pink, powder blue or sherbet yellow. To keep newly painted nails looking as good as they can be always have one of our Mandarin and geranium scented Hand Protection and Finishing Sprays to hand in your hand bag to improve the texture and feel of your skin whilst protecting your painted nails.

The spray forms a breathable film helping to protect your hands and nails from drying out and from environmental aggressors that could lead to ageing. Perfect for use after our Hydrating Hand Lotion as it helps to lock in all the moisture from the lotion.

Alternatively why not book an appointment for a Supreme Manicure at one of our clinics – Margaret Dabbs Foot Clinic and Nail Spa or Margaret Dabbs Sole Spa at Liberty London where you will receive our signature manicure using the full range of our products and finishing with a hand and lower arm massage.

  20. testing Festival Season Has ArrivedFestival season is here and it’s not just your wardrobe that needs thorough planning. Finish your festival look with a bold nail colour. Choose bright eye catching neons or soft pastels topped off with a touch of glitter for added glamour.  Here at Margaret Dabbs we suggest booking an appointment at our Foot Clinic and Nail Spa or our Sole Spa at Liberty and treating yourself to a manicure or pedicure to ensure your hands, feet and nails are in tip top condition. If you’re looking to spoil yourself why not have both at the same time?

Make sure you include our Hand Protection and Finishing Spray on your packing list to protect your hands from environmental aggressors and newly painted nails from dirt, as well as our Hand Santiser with antibacterial properties, perfect for spraying on hands throughout the day leaving them hydrated, clean and refreshed.

Don’t forget to look after your feet; festivals can be hard on them! You will be walking around all day everyday and there may be mud, so comfortable footwear and a couple of choices are a must. We suggest you pack a pot of our Foot Hygiene Cream to ensure your feet survive festival season.
Our  Foot Hygiene Cream is designed to help relieve symptoms of sore, dry, blistered skin and discoloured nails, it’s the perfect hygiene measure for sweat prone feet and helps keep them healthy, which is essential at festivals.

After a long but fun filled festival weekend your feet are bound to be in need of some special attention and we recommend a relaxing scrub and foot soak treatment. The Exfoliating Foot Mousse will scrub your feet to perfection, removing dead skin whilst also replenishing and hydrating the skin.
Then soak your feet in warm water adding our Hydrating Foot Soak that will help to relieve tired and throbbing feet as well as easing cracked skin and nails. The final step to take is massaging our Intensive Treatment Foot Oil into the skin and nails instantly treating very dehydrated, cracked and broken skin.

  22. testing Ingrown Toenails, prevention and cure

As promised, to celebrate World Foot Health Awareness Month, we will be doing weekly blogs on some of the foot problems, teenagers commonly suffer from. Today we’ll be discussing how to identify, prevent and treat in-grown toenails.

An ingrown toenail is when the edge of a nail (usually the big toe) starts to grow into the skin at the side of the toe. This can be a sharp spike or a thicker edge of the nail, causing pain, swelling, inflammation and even infection. The infection is caused by bacteria present in our feet, socks and footwear or the instruments used to cut our nails.

What does an ingrown toenail look like?

Usually the skin on the ingrown side swells up and is inflamed. You may find the pain gets worse when walking, especially in closed shoes. If skin is wounded, a red growth of skin may develop. In addition, bacteria can cause infection with pus. If this is the case, unless the piece of nail is removed, the condition may get worse.

    Causes of ingrown toenails

    • Naturally increased curvature of the nail

    • Poor self-cutting

    • Trauma (i.e. dropping something on the toe)

    • Unfit footwear

    • Fungal infections

    Prevention

    • See one of our expert podiatrists if you start to get any pain or inflammation in the skin at the side of your toenails or if you have an injury to the toe.

    • For nails that are prone to becoming in-grown get into the habit of using the Margaret Dabbs Crystal Nail File, rather than clippers or scissors where you can’t always guide them properly to see what you are doing –  file nails straight across with crystal nail file – it has the added benefit of keeping them looking neat and groomed, and will encourage healthy grown of the nail.

    • Make sure your shoes and socks fit perfectly (not too long or short), to avoid pressure on your toes

    • Ensure good foot hygiene so that the skin of your feet doesn’t get too sweaty. Our Foot Hygiene Cream is the perfect full-proof remedy for any fungal infection and sweaty feet. Rich in Emu Oil to promote skin renewal, Tea Tree Oil, Benzoic and Salicylic Acids to prevent and treat fungal infections and sweat prone feet.

    • Nails grown from the same tissues as skin and hair, so they need looking after just as much. Use our Nourishing Nail & Cuticle Serum, formulated with Emu and Tea Tree Oil to strengthen, hydrate and protect the nails, while keeping nail infections away.

    • Don’t cut a notch in the front of the nail to relieve pressure.

    • Don’t cut down the sides of the nail at an angle. It only alters the shape of the part you can cut.

    Treatment

    • In uninfected cases, skilled and careful cutting by a podiatrist, followed by advice on correct cutting, often solves the problem. Persistent cases require an operation under local anaesthetic, where the offending edges are cut away and the nail root removed. This is a permanent solution that leaves the nail narrower but looking normal.

For the remainder of this month, we have developed a special treatment for teenagers - the Teenage Foot Overhaul, 45 minutes, £60/£90 with principal podiatrist to assess the health of the feet, and address all skin, nail, gait and hygiene issues common to teenagers.

The aim is to educate, prevent and treat the feet in their entirety and will include verrucae patrol, athlete’s foot detection, advice on how to cut nails, and full gait analysis to ensure a full MOT for teen feet.

  23. testing Athlete's Foot, prevention and cure

    [vc_row][vc_column width="1/1"][vc_column_text]

This month we’re celebrating World Foot Health Awareness, paying particular attention to issues teenagers commonly suffer from. This article will be focusing on Athlete’s Foot, how we can prevent and/or treat it.

    Firstly, what is Athlete’s Foot?

Athlete’s Foot is a contagious, fungus infection that causes a scaly, cracked rash between the toes and/or soles of the feet, occasionally spreading to the toenails. It can also spread to the palms of your hands, groin or underarms if you touch your feet and then touch another area of your body.

The signs and symptoms of Athlete’s Foot include itching, burning, redness, and stinging on the soles of the feet or between the toes and odour. The skin may flake, peel, blister or crack.

It grows best on warm, damp skin, so, anyone whose feet tend to be damp or sweaty can get this common infection.

    How can you prevent it?

    • Dry your feet and the spaces between your toes well, after showering or swimming

    • Use a clean towel (Avoid sharing towels because doing so can spread the infection)

    • If you use public showers, wear waterproof shoes or flip-flops

    • Try not to wear the same shoes or sneakers all the time

    • Don’t wear socks that make your feet sweat or trap moisture. Cotton or wool socks are a good bet. You also can find socks made of special “moisture-wicking” fabrics in many sports stores that designed to keep feet dry

    • Try to change your socks twice a day

    • Wash your shoes, if possible or spray shoe disinfectant. Alternatively, we offer a shoe steriliser service at our New Cavendish Street clinic, that will thoroughly disinfect your shoes.

    • Soak feet often in the Margaret Dabbs Hydrating Foot Soak. It is formulated with Emu Oil to ease inflammation and Lemon Myrtle to deodorise the feet

    How to treat it?

    • Cleanse feet with the Margaret Dabbs Hydrating Foot Soak.

    • Use the Margaret Dabbs Foot Hygiene Cream, formulated with Emu Oil, salicylic and benzoic acids as well as tea-tree oil to help kill the bacteria that causes athlete’s foot. Use daily for two weeks. You will notice that the odour will start to disappear and that the skin will start to look renewed and healthy.

    • If after this time, you are still experiencing symptoms of athlete’s foot, it is best to schedule an appointment with one of our experienced podiatrists, either at our Margaret Dabbs New Cavendish Street Clinic or Margaret Dabbs Sole Spa Clinic at Liberty London, who will help eradicate the problem.

  24. testing Save Our Post Summer Feet[vc_row][vc_column width="1/1"][vc_column_text]

Summer footwear feels liberating but is often unforgiving, and can leave your feet looking far from beautiful says Margaret Dabbs, Founder of Margaret Dabbs London. Sandals and flip flops look beautiful but without proper care and attention can cause abrasions and cracked heels, especially when the feet are dry.

“We automatically hydrate and protect the skin on our face, it’s second nature. The skin and health of our feet is often an afterthought – only when there is a problem,  such as painful cracked heels or severe dehydration do we reach for a solution.  We should also be aware that the feet age in exactly the same way as the face, the skin thins, the sub cutaneous fat layer is lost and the sweat glands reduce in effectiveness, even more reason to protect and nourish your feet” - Margaret explains.

For intensive post summer nourishment, your foot care essential should be the Margaret Dabbs London Intensive Foot Oil – A unique dry oil, which instantly treats and transforms very dehydrated, cracked, broken skin and nails giving long lasting nourishment and moisture. Results are instantly visible. The spray applicator makes this light but powerful oil, a joy to use. With the signature ingredient of Emu Oil and the scent of lemon myrtle this product has gained global cult status, it should be applied daily to feet and massaged in for immediate comfort and long lasting beautification.
